Curious

Culture is a pattern you can learn to see. Get curious, and a confusing moment becomes a puzzle you can actually work.

What is Curious?

Curious is the knowledge side of cultural readiness: how much you understand about culture in general, and about how it shapes thought and behavior where you are headed. It covers the big picture, like how communication, religion, gender roles, and economic and legal systems vary, and the specifics of your own setting.

A compass resting on a map

The one question to ask

Which dimensions of culture does this situation involve?

Use the 11 Dimensions as a lens on any human interaction. Spot every one that may be at play, then pick the one or two actually driving the friction.

Learn it until you see it

1. Learn the Dimensions

Study the 11 Dimensions until recognizing them feels second nature.

2. Spot what is at play

Several Dimensions can show up in one moment. Name them all.

3. Pick the one or two

Address what is driving the friction, not everything at once.

Three things to keep in mind

Knowledge is not the finish line

Studying culture without the other three Cs can breed false confidence. Pair what you know with drive, a plan, and flexible behavior.

Your setting matters

Serving as a missionary calls for different cultural knowledge than leading a business, even though both draw on the same big picture.

A starting point, not a verdict

Where a culture tends to sit on a Dimension is a place to begin. Real people and real experience refine it.

Try it this week

Think of a recent moment that confused you across a cultural gap. Which one or two of the 11 Dimensions were really at play? Make your best guess, then check it against the Dimensions pages.

Keep going with the 4 Cs

One short, practical Culture-Ready note at a time.
